|9th Day - We shall learn about Past Indefinite Tense. Sentences of actions completed or happened in past, come under Past Indefinite Tense.|
Past Indefinite Tense
Past Tense – Time which has passed away and become past. An action which has happened in past relates to Past Tense.
Past Indefinite Tense is used to express an action that is completed or happened in recent past, normally a short time before speaking. Time of action is not specified but it makes a sense that action is completed in recent past like
– He saw her face. It means that subject has seen her face a short time ago.
Bhoot Kaal - Samay jo beet gayaa aur bhoot kaal ban gayaa. Jo action bhoot kaal meiN ghaTit huaa vah Past Tense se sambandhit hai.
Action yaa kaarya jo vaakya bolate samay se kuchh samay pahale hee poorN huaa ho yaa ghaTit huaa ho, Past Indefinite tense ke antargat aataa hai. Jaise - Usane uskay chehare ko dekhaa. - Isakaa arth hai kee usane usakee chehare ko vaakya bolane ke samay se kuchh samay pahale dekhaa. Hindi meiN isakee Pahachaan – Vaakya ke ant meiN ‘aayaa’, ‘gayaa’, ‘liyaa’, ‘diyaa’, ‘paDhaa’ aadi kaa prayog hotaa hai.
It is used to express an action which has completed in past and time (like 3pm, yesterday, last evening, last month, past years) is given in the sentence like - He
met her yesterday.
Kaarya jo bhoot kaal meiN ghaTit yaa poorN huaa ho aur vaakya meiN samay (jaise 3 baje, kal, pichhale maheene, pichhale saal, aadee) diyaa huaa ho, vah Bhoot Kaal
Saamaanya kaal ke antargat aate hai.
It is also used to express old habits also like - Rajkumar always wore white shoes. Normally words "USED TO" is used to express old habits for which we shall
learn later - Rajkumar used to wear white shoes
Isakaa prayog bhoot kaal kee aadat ko vyakt karane hetu bhee kiyaa jaataa hai jaise - Rajkumar hameshaa safed jute pahanataa thaa. Bhoot Kaal kee aadat
ko bataane ke liye aamtaur par "USED TO" kaa prayog kiyaa jaataa jisake baare meiN aage paDhenge.

In Past Indefinite Tense, 2nd form of Verb is used to form the Affirmative sentence. We have already read that there are three forms of verbs - 1st GO, 2nd WENT & 3rd GONE
( List of Forms of Verbs).
Past Indefinite Tense ke sakaaraatmak vaakya banaane meiN verb kee 2nd form kaa prayog hotaa hai. Ham pahale paDh chuke hai kee Verb ke teen roop hote hai - 1st GO - Jaata hai,
2nd WENT - Gaya & 3rd GONE - Ja chukaa hai/thaa/hogaa.( List of Forms of Verbs).

|Vah mujh par hansaa.||He laughed at me.|
|Surya subah 6 baje nikalaa.||The sun rose at 6 am.|
|Vah apanee patnee kaa naam bhee bhool gayaa.||He forgot even the name of his wife.|
|Maine London meiN samay kaa sadupyog kiyaa.||I made good use of time in London.|
|Kal raat maiN bahut gaharee neend soyaa.||I slept very soundly yesterday night.|
|Vah hameshaa lal chhaataa uThaaye rakhataa thaa.||He always carried red umbrella.|
|Kal varshaa hui thee.||It rained yesterday.|
|Hanumaan jee ne Ram kee sahaayataa kee.||Hanumaan jee helped Ram.|

In Past Indefinite Negative Tense, 'Did Not' is used with Ist form of Verb. In positive tense, 2nd form of verb is used but when 'Did'
is used in Past Indefinite Negative and Interrogative tenses, Ist form of Verb (base form) is used with 'Did'. 'Did' is used for all singular and plural
Past Indefinite ke nakaaraatmak vaakyo meiN 'Did Not' kaa prayog Verb kee first form ke saath kiyaa jaataa hai. Isake sakaaraatmak vaakyo meN
verb kee 2nd form kaa prayog hotaa hai, parantu isake prashnavaachak aur nakaaraatmak vaakyo meiN 'Did' ke saath verb kee first form ka
prayog hotaa hai. 'Did' sabhee ekvachan aur bahuvachan sabject ke saath lagataa hai.
