Direct Indirect Speech - Miscellaneous Sentences
In few sentences, emotions are very important. While converting their Direct Speech to Indirect Speech, word of the same emotion is used in place of 'Said To'.
Kuchh vaakyo meiN bhaav bahut mahatvapoorN hotaa hai. Unako pratyakSh kathan se apratyakSh kathan meiN badalate samay, usee bhaav ke shabd ko 'said to' ke sthaan par istemaal kiyaa jaataa hai.
|Direct||Gupta jee ne Avyan se kahaa, "Ishwar tumhe lambee aayu pradaan kareN !"||Gupta jee said to Avyan, "May God bless you with long life!"|
|Indirect||Gupta jee ne praarthanaa kee ki Ishwar Avyan ko lambee aayu pradaan kareN.||Gupta jee prayed that God might bless Avyan with long life.|
|Direct||Usane Poonam se kahaa, Bhagwaan tumhe beTe kaa aashirvaad de!"||She said to Poonam, "May God bless you with a son!"|
|Indirect||Usane praarthanaa kee ki Bhagwaan Poonam ko beTaa ho.||She prayed that God might bless Poonam with a son.|
|Direct||Usane kahaa, "Kaash maiN raajaa hotaa"||He said, "If I were a king."|
|Indirect||Usane chaahaa ki vah raajaa hotaa.||He wished that he would be a king.|
|Direct||Bhikhaaree ne kahaa, "Agar mere paas das rupaye kaa note hotaa"||The beggar said, "If I had a ten rupee note!"|
|Indirect||Bhikhaaree ne kaamanaa kee ki usakee paas das rupaye kaa note hotaa.||The beggar wished that he would have a ten rupee note.|
|Direct||Chairman ne kahaa, "Vidaa! Mere dosto."||The Chairman said, "Farewell my friends."|
|Indirect||Chairman ne apane dosto ko vidaai dee.||The Chairman bade his friends' farewell.|
|Direct||Mareej ne kahaa, "Dhanyavaad, doctor."||The patient said, "Thank you, doctor."|
|Indirect||Mareej ne doctor ko dhanyavaad diyaa.||The patient thanked the doctor.|
|Direct||Usane use kahaa, "Nischint raho, maiN tumhaaree madad karungaa."||He said to her, "Rest assured, I shall help you."|
|Indirect||Usane use aashvaasan diyaa kee vah usakee madad karegaa.||He assured her that he would help her.|
|Direct||Sneh ne kahaa, "Bhagwaan kee kasam, maine Surabhi ko upshabd nahee kahe."||Sneh said, "By Heaven, I did not call Surabhi names."|
|Indirect||Sneh ne kasam khaai ki usane Surabhi ko upshabd nahee kahe thay.||Sneh swore that she had not called Surabhi names.|
|Direct||Usane mujhe kahaa, "JhooThay dosto se bacho."||He said to me, "Beware of false friends."|
|Indirect||Usane mujhe jhooThe dosto ke prati saavdhaan kiyaa.||He warned me against false friends.|
|Direct||Meena ne kahaa, "Nahee, maiN vahaaN nahee jaaungee."||Meena said, "No I shall not go there."|
|Indirect||Meena ne vahaaN jaane se manaa kiyaa.||Meena refused to go there.|
|Direct||Usane kahaa, "Aag! Aag! Aag bujhaao."||He said, "Fire! Fire! Put out the fire."|
|Indirect||Usane jor se logo ko pukara kee aag bujhaao.||He called aloud to the people to put out the fire.|
|Direct||Kisaan ne lomaDee se kahaa, "Dusht, MaiN tumhe Taang doongaa."||The farmer said to the fox, "I shall hang you, you rogue."|
|Indirect||Kisaan ne lomaDee ko dushT kahaa aur bolaa kee vah use Taang degaa.||The farmer called the fox a rogue and said that he would hang him.|
|Direct||Pravaktaa ne kahaa, "Bhaaiyo aur bahano, maiN aapakee sevaa meiN haazir hoon."||The speaker said, "Ladies & gentlemen, I am at your disposal."|
|Indirect||Shrotaao ko sambodhit karate huay pravaktaa ne kahaa ki vah unakee sevaa meiN haazir hai.||Addressing the audience the speaker said that he was at their disposal.|
Name of person comes in Reporting Speech instead of Reported Verb.
Vakyo meiN vyakti kaa naam Reporting Verb kee bajaaye Reported Speech meiN aaye.
|Direct||Usane kahaa, "Gaurav, maiN tumhe chetaavanee de rahee hoon."||She said, "Gaurav, I am warning you."|
|Indirect||Usane Gaurav ko kahaa ki vah use chetaavanee de rahee thee.||She told Gaurav that she was warning him.|
|Direct||Bhavin ne kahaa, "Apane khilono se khelo, Vartika."||Bhavin said, "Play with your toys, Vartika."|
|Indirect||Bhavin ne Vartika se kahaa ki apane khilono se khelo.||Bhavin asked Vartika to play with her toys.|
Words 'Sir' and 'Madam' come in Reported Speech.
Shabd 'Sir' aur 'Madam' Reported Speech meiN aaye.
|Indirect||Usane Mahodayaa se poochhaa ki vah andar aa sakatee hai.||She asked the Madam if she might come in.|
|Direct||Usane kahaa, "Kyaa maiN apane aapako aapase parichit karvaauN, Shreemaan?"||He said, "May I introduce myself to you, Sir?"|
|Indirect||Usane aadar se mujhase (tumase/usase /unase/…) poochhaa ki vah apanaa parichaya de.||He asked respectfully to me (you/him/her/them/…) whether he might introduce himself.|
Words 'You see, you know, well, okay' come in Reported Speech.
Shabd 'You see, you know, well, okay' Reported Speech meiN aaye.
|Direct||Sahaayataa table par baiThee Madam ne kahaa, "Achchhaa, maiN aapake liye kyaa kar sakatee hoon?"||Madam sitting on the help desk said, "Well, what can I do for you?"|
|Indirect||Sahaayataa table par baiThee Madam ne namrataa se kahaa ki vah usake liye kyaa kar sakatee hai.||Madam sitting on the help desk asked politely what she can do for her.|
|Direct||Usane kahaa, "Achchhaa, yahaaN aapakaa koi kaam nahee hai."||She said, "Well, it is none of your business."|
|Indirect||Usane namrataa se kahaa ki vahaaN usakaa koi kaam nahee thaa.||She asked politely that it was none of her business.|
|Direct||"Theek hai" Manager ne kahaa, "MaiN usake case kaa dhyaan rakhungaa."||"Okay". The manager said, "I will take care of her case."|
|Indirect||Manager ne ashwaasan diyaa kee vah usake case kaa dhyaan rakhega.||The manager assured that he would take care of her case.|
If 'Had to' comes in a sentence, in Indirect Speech it is changed to 'Had had to'
Yadi 'Had to' vaakya meiN aataa hai to apratyakSh kathan meiN yah 'Had had to' meiN parivaarit hotaa hai.
|Direct||Usane kahaa, "Police ko court ke aadesh ke baad netaa ko giraftaar karanaa paDaa thaa"||He said, "The police had to arrest the leader after court order".|
|Indirect||Usane kahaa ki police ko court ke aadesh ke baad netaa ko giraftaar karanaa paDaa thaa.||He said that the police had had to arrest the leader after court order.|
More than two sentences in Reported Speech.
Reported Speech meiN ek se jyaadaa vaakya
|Direct||Captain ne kahaa, "Vah ek dushman hai. Us par najar rakho."||Captain said, "He is an enemy. Keep an eye on him."|
|Indirect||Captain ne kahaa ki vah ek dushman thaa aur joDaa ki us par najar rakho.||Captain said that he was an enemy and added to keep an eye on him.|
|Direct||Usane apane pati se kahaa, "MaiN aaj raat kaa khaanaa nahee banaungee. Mujhe bhee ek chhuTTee kee jaroorat hai. MaiN aaraam karungee.||She said to her husband, "I will not prepare dinner today. I also need a holiday. I will take rest.|
|Indirect||Usane apane pati se kahaa ki vah us din raat kaa khaanaa nahee banaayegee aur aage joDaa ki usako bhee ek chhuTTee kee jaroorat thee aur vah aaraam karegee.||She told her husband that she would not prepare dinner that day and further added that she also needed a holiday and she would take rest.|
|Direct||Kanika ne Avyan se kahaa, "Nahee. Nahee. Tum mere saath chaalaakee nahee kar sakate ho. MaiN Puna kee laDakee hoon aur maiN tumase jyaadaa chaalaak hoon."||Kanika said to Avyan, "No. No. You cannot play smart with me. I am a girl from Pune and I am smarter than you."|
|Indirect||Kanika ne Avyan se kahaa ki vah usake saath chaalaakee nahee kar sakataa kyonki vah Puna kee laDakee hai aur vah usase jyaadaa chaalaak hai.||Kanika told Avyan that he could not play smart with her as she was a girl of Pune and she was smarter than him.|
Some sentences look Interrogative or Negative, but it has an advice or request.
Kuchh vaakya dikhane meiN Interrogative yaa Negative lagate hai parantu inameN salaah yaa nivedan kaa bhaav hotaa hai.
|Direct||Usakee Maa ne usako kahaa, "Tum jaldee so kyoN nahee jaate?"||Her mother said to her, "Why don't you sleep early?"|
|Indirect||Usakee Maan ne use salaah dee ki jaldee so jaaye.||Her mother advised her to sleep early.|
|Direct||Bujurg mahilaa ne kahaa, "Kyaa aap thoDaa saa sarkenge?"||Old lady said, "Could you please move a bit?"|
|Indirect||Bujurg mahilaa ne usako thoDaa saa sarakane ko kahaa.||Old lady asked him to move a bit.|
|Direct||Sweety ne apane dost se kahaa, "Usase jhagaDaa mat kariye. Vah ek gunDaa hai."||Sweety said to her friend, "Please, please don't fight with him. He is a hooligan"|
|Indirect||Sweety ne apane dost se nivedan kiyaa ko usase jhagaDaa naa kareN aur aage joDaa ki vah ek gunDaa thaa.||Sweety requested her friend not to fight with him and further added that he was a hooligan.|
