Pronunciation Rules

Rule no. 8

जब एक ही व्यंजन एक पंक्ति में एक शब्द में दो बार एकसाथ आए तब उन व्यंजनों के तुरंत बाद आने वाले Vowel का उच्चारण short होता है।

When the same consonant occurs twice in a word in a row, the vowel coming immediately after them is pronounced short.

Examples: parrot, slipper, arrest

Rule no. 9

जब किसी शब्द में एक ही Vowel लगातार दो बार आए तब उन Vowels का उच्चारण long होता है परंतु यह नियम 'oo' के साथ लागू नही होता।

When one Vowel comes twice consecutively in a row in a word, then the Vowels have long sound, but this Rule does not apply with 'oo'.

Examples: aah, peel, tree

Rule no. 10

जब किसी शब्द में double 'oo' एक साथ आए तो इसका उच्चारण अलग अलग शब्द में अलग होता है (जैसे - छोटा उ, बड़ा ऊ )।

When double 'oo' comes together in a word, it sounds differently in different words.

Examples: book, good, room

Rule no. 11

Alphabet 'Y' एक व्यंजन है परंतु अँग्रेज़ी भाषा में यह Vowel की तरह भी कार्य करता है। अलग अलग शब्दों में इसका अलग उच्चारण होता है।

Alphabet 'Y' is a consonant, but in the English language, it works as a Vowel also. It has different sounds in different words.

Examples: try, day, gym

उपर दिए गए नियमों को ध्यान से पढ़ कर याद रखें. यह ज़रूर याद रखें की अँग्रेज़ी भाषा में सभी नियमों के अपवाद होते हैं जो ध्यान देने और अभ्यास करने पर समझ में आ जाते हैं।
