Use of Need as Modal Verb
Need मोडल क्रियाओं के समूह के अंतर्गत भी आती है जहां उसे अर्थपूर्ण वाक्य बनाने के लिए दूसरे वर्ब की आवश्यकता होती है। यहाँ आमतौर पर यह बिना 'Infinitive to' के प्रयुक्त होती है। एक सामान्य क्रिया के रूप में 'Need' आमतौर पर प्रश्नात्मक और नकारात्मक वाक्यों में उपयोग प्रयोग है। वाक्य में कर्ता की संख्या का 'need' शब्द की फॉर्म पर कोई प्रभाव नहीं पड़ता है।
'Need' also belongs to the group of modal verbs, where it needs another verb to make a meaningful sentence. Here it's used usually without infinite 'to'. As a modal verb, 'Need' is used commonly in interrogative and negative sentences. The number of subject in the sentence has no effect on the form of the word 'need'.

This form of 'need' is not very common and is considered formal. Look at the following sentences: |
| क्या हमें दादाजी के लिए एक सहायक को नौकरी पर रखने की ज़रूरत है? | Do we need to hire an attendant for grandpa? ( here 'Need' isn't a modal and the question starts with 'do'.) |
| क्या हम दादाजी के लिए एक सहायक को नौकरी पर रखें? | Need we hire an attendant for grandpa? ( 'Need' as modal and without question word 'do'.) |
| यदि जवाब नकारात्मक है तो हम 'need not' या 'needn't' के साथ उत्तर देंगे, लेकिन अगर जवाब सकारात्मक है तो हम उत्तर देंगे 'we must'। | If the answer is negative, we will reply with 'need not' or 'needn't', but if the answer is affirmative we will reply as 'we must'. |
| क्या मुझे इसी कंपनी (ब्रांड) की दवा खरीदने की ज़रूरत है? | Need I buy this brand of medicine only? |
| नहीं, आपको केवल इसी कंपनी (ब्रांड) की दवा खरीदने की ज़रूरत नहीं है। | No, you needn't buy this brand of medicine only. (negative reply) |
| हां, आपको केवल इसी कंपनी (ब्रांड) की दवा खरीदनी होगी। | Yes, you must buy this brand of medicine only. (affirmative reply) |
| क्या हमें पूरे घर को पेंट करने की आवश्यकता है? | Need we get the whole house painted? |
| हमें पूरे घर को पेंट करने की आवश्यकता नहीं है। | We needn't get the whole house painted. (negative reply) |
| हमें पूरे घर को पेंट करना होगा। | We must get the whole house painted. (affirmative reply) |
