The Participle

Difference between Gerund and Participle

Gerund और Participle दोनों ही non-Finite Verbs हैं और वर्बल हैं। Participle के दो प्रकार हैं - Present Participles और Past Participle. दोनों Present Participle और Gerund को क्रिया के पहले रूप में ‘Ing’ को जोड़कर बनाया जाता है जो देखने में समान लगते हैं इसलिए भ्रम पैदा होता है। आइए Gerund और Present Participle के बीच के अंतर को समझते हैं:

Both Gerund and Participle are non-Finite Verbs and are Verbal. There are two types of Participle - Present Participle and Past Participle. Both Present Participle and Gerund are formed by adding ‘Ing’ to the first form of the verb, which seems to be identical in appearance and therefore creates confusion. Let’s understand the difference between Gerund and Present Participle:

Gerund Present Participle
गठन: क्रिया (प्रथम रूप) + 'Ing' उदाहरण: Work + Ing = Working, Run + Ing = Running, Save + Ing = Saving, Cry + Ing = Crying Formation: Verb (1st form) + 'Ing' e.g. Work + Ing = Working, Run + Ing = Running, Save + Ing = Saving, Cry + Ing = Crying गठन: क्रिया (प्रथम रूप) + 'Ing' उदाहरण: Work + Ing = Working, Run + Ing = Running, Save + Ing = Saving, Cry + Ing = Crying Formation: Verb (1st form) + 'Ing' e.g. Work + Ing = Working, Run + Ing = Running, Save + Ing = Saving, Cry + Ing = Crying
यह एक संज्ञा के रूप में कार्य करता है और इसे वर्बल संज्ञा के रूप में भी जाना जाता है। It functions as a Noun and also known as a Verbal Noun. यह एक विशेषण के रूप में कार्य करता है और इसे वर्बल विशेषण के रूप में भी जाना जाता है। It functions as an adjective and also known as Verbal Adjective.
संज्ञा के रूप में, यह एक सब्जेक्ट या ऑब्जेक्ट बन सकता है। As a noun, it can become a subject or an object. यह सब्जेक्ट या ऑब्जेक्ट नहीं हो सकता है क्योंकि यह संज्ञा / सर्वनाम का वर्णन करता है। It cannot be a subject or an object as it describes a noun/pronoun.
Possessive विशेषण (my, your, his, her, their) के बाद, संज्ञा आती है इसलिय पोज़ेसिव विशेषण के बाद Gerund आता है। जैसे- उसे मेरा पेंटिंग करना पसंद नहीं है। After possessive adjectives (my, your, his, her, their), a noun comes so after possessive adjective Gerund comes. E.g. She doesn't like my painting. यह संज्ञा नहीं है, इसलिए यह एक Possessive विशेषण के बाद नहीं आता है। It is not a Noun, so it does not come after a possessive adjective.
