Past Perfect Tense

हम उस क्रिया / घटना को व्यक्त करने के लिए भी पास्ट पर्फेक्ट टेन्स का उपयोग करते हैं जो बहुत समय पहले घटित हो चुकी थी।

We also use past perfect tenses to express the action / event that had taken place a long time ago.

Look at these sentences:

उसने लंदन में साक्षात्कार दिया था।	He had given the interview in London.
मैं वह उपन्यास जयपुर में पढ़ चुका था।	I had read that novel in Jaipur.
हमने गोवा में एक साथ 20-20 मैच देखा था।	We had watched a 20-20 match together in Goa.
तुमने अपने क्लास टीचर के साथ दुर्व्यवहार नहीं किया था।	You had not misbehaved with your class teacher.
उसने एक ही बार में मेरा प्रस्ताव स्वीकार कर लिया था।	She had accepted my proposal in one go.
राजा विक्रमादित्य ने सभी के साथ न्याय किया था।	King Vikramaditya had done justice to all.
मंजुला ने घर के मामलों को समझदारी से संभाला था।	Manjula had handled the affairs of the house judiciously.
मैंने डॉक्टर जैन के क्लिनिक में कंपाउंडर के रूप में भी काम किया था।	I had also worked as a compounder at Dr Jain's clinic.
उसे अपने जीवन में एक खास खुशी नहीं मिली थी।	She had not got one particular pleasure in her life.

हम Past Perfect टेन्स का तब भी इस्तेमाल करते हैं जब हमें यह व्यक्त करना होता है कि किसी विशेष समय में कितनी देर तक कुछ हुआ।

We also use Past Perfect Tense even when we have to express how long something happened in a particular past time.

Look at these sentences:

मैं दस साल से दिल्ली में रहता था।	I had been in Delhi for ten years.
उन्होंने नौ महीने तक मेरे कार्यालय में सेवा की थी।	He had served in my office for nine months.
मैं उन्हें पांच साल से जानता था।	I had known him for five years.
वह तीन दिनों से बीमार थी।	She had been sick for three days.
पंद्रह साल की उम्र से वह एक किसान था।	He had been a farmer since he was fifteen.
आप कुछ दिनों से परेशान थे।	You had been upset for a few days.
