Articles - A, An, The

Articles in modern English are placed under determinants which are part of adjectives only. Articles are used before a noun to show whether the noun is general or specific.

Articles in Hindi: आधुनिक अंग्रेजी में Articles को Determiners के अंतर्गत रखा गया है जो Adjectives का ही एक हिस्सा हैं। Articles का उपयोग संज्ञा से पहले यह दिखाने के लिए किया जाता है कि संज्ञा सामान्य है या विशिष्ट है।

Article are of two types:

Indefinite Articles - A, An	ये किसी विशिष्ट व्यक्ति, वस्तु या स्थान की ओर संकेत नही करते हैं।	They do not indicate any specific person, object or place.
Definite Articles - The	यह किसी विशेष व्यक्ति, वस्तु या स्थान को इंगित करता है।	It indicates a particular person, object or place.

'A' और 'An' अनिश्चित आर्टिकल्स है। वाक्यो में अनिश्चित सिंगुलर काउंटेबल नाउन से पूर्व आर्टिकल A/An का प्रयोग किया जाता है। 

'A' and 'An' are the indefinite articles. The article A/An is used before an indefinite singular countable noun in sentences.

मेरे पास एक पेन है।	I have a pen.
वह एक आर्टिस्ट है।	She is an artist.
मैंने कल एक छाता खरीदा।	I bought an umbrella yesterday.
उसने मुझे एक प्याज दिया।	She gave me an onion.
क्या आपके पास पुस्तक है?	Do you have a book?

Difference between 'A' and 'An'

'A' और 'An' दोनों Indefinite Articles हैं। 'A' और 'An' के प्रयोग में अंतर का मुख्य कारक शब्द की प्रारंभिक ध्वनि है। यदि कोई शब्द व्यंजन ध्वनि के साथ शुरू होता है तो हम उस शब्द से पहले 'A' का उपयोग करते हैं भले ही वह शब्द एक स्वर अक्षर से शुरू हुआ हो।

'A' and 'An' both are indefinite articles. The main factor in the difference between the use of A and An is the initial sound of the word. If a word starts with a consonant sound then we use 'A' before that word even if that word starts with a vowel letter.

Look at the following to understand the difference better.

Use of Article 'A'
1	एकवचन गणनीय संज्ञा से पहले जो व्यंजन अक्षर से शुरू होती है और व्यंजन ध्वनि से ही बोली जाती है।	Before a singular countable noun that begins with a consonant letter and is spoken by a consonant sound.
	Examples: a car, a computer, a pen, a boy, a girl, a book, a dog, a table, etc
2	एकवचन गणनीय संज्ञा से पहले जो अक्षर 'E' या 'U' से शुरू होती है लेकिन व्यंजन 'यू' की ध्वनि से बोली जाती है।	Before a singular countable noun that starts with the letter 'E' or 'U' but is spoken with the sound of the consonant 'U'.
	Examples: a European, a university, a uniform, a union, a united team, a universal truth, etc.
3	एकवचन गणनीय संज्ञा से पहले जो अक्षर 'O' से शुरू होती है लेकिन व्यंजन 'व' की ध्वनि से बोली जाती है।	Before a singular countable noun that starts with the letter O' but is spoken with the sound of the consonant 'Va'.
	Examples: a one-rupee note, a one-way route, a one-man committee, etc.
